“What do I want with my life?” Two answers most received to this question are to be healthy & happy. So why are we so often feeling sick, depressed, and struggling just to get through ONE day? How are we getting SO lost in doing what we all say we want?
There are a variety of factors that are getting in the way of true health & happiness – and unfortunately the answer may be different for all of us. Are you making excuses? Are you letting others run your life for you? Are you simply afraid of failing? Do you even KNOW what will actually make you happy?
So, when I ask myself what I want to do with my life my answers come back to this:
I want to do something that doesn’t suck. They say, “get a career in something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”…well, I’m sorry but that’s unfortunately not entirely true. Everything sucks, sometimes. No matter the career, there will ALWAYS be the unpleasant, straight up awful days. You have to find the lifestyle that you won’t mind riding out those crummy days. It’s truly up to what you are able & willing to tolerate.
“Passion is the result of action, not the cause of it”
I NEED to do something that embarrasses myself. This sounds counterproductive to being happy, as no one actually likes feeling embarrassed. Success isn’t just born, you have to create that and actually make yourself GOOD at something first. To be good at something, you first have to be bad at something which in turn is embarrassing. I mean, who wants to fail – most times over and over again? Embrace the embarrassment, it’s part of the process in achieving something meaningful to you. After all, the more a major life decision scares you, chances are the more you need to be doing it.
Sounds totally cliché, but everything you do in life starts with the first step in action. What are you going to do TODAY that you’ll be grateful for tomorrow?
