Falls Prevention

Falls can decrease your quality of life and limit your ability to do the things you love. Physical Therapy can help decrease your risk for falls by providing you with specific exercises that improve your balance. Falls prevention also includes education about what factors can contribute to falls.

Risk factors for increased falls:

  • Past history of falling
  • Medication use
  • Vision or hearing changes
  • Muscle weakness
  • Difficulty walking
  • Environment that has tripping hazards or changing, uneven surfaces

Fall risk screenings

These are screenings that help to determine your fall risk and can be completed for free or as part of your physical therapy plan of care. These screenings can also be completed on site at senior living facilities and senior community centers.

Home Safety Screenings

A provider will come to your home and provide a comprehensive assessment of your environment and provide recommendations to help decrease your risk for falling.
