Holiday Health Tips

Remaining active and making healthy choices can be challenging during the holiday season.  Time commitments, a changing schedule, cold weather, and a large amount of food can often lead to decreased physical activity and increased food consumption.  Here are a couple of tips to help manage this tricky time of year:
  • Image result for holiday exerciseTake the time to exercise on a daily basis.  Exercise does not need to take a long period of time.  Even small bouts of exercise done several times a day can add up and burn significant calories.
  • Exercise before meals leads to more effective calorie use.
  • Eat a healthy snack at home prior to going to a party or gathering so you aren’t as hungry when you get there.
  • Avoid hanging out by the “food table.”
  • Eat from a smaller plate as opposed to “grazing.”
  • Try to be consistent with exercise during the holidays, but don’t get discouraged if you miss a day of exercise or overindulge for a meal!
